Gene is a Legal Advisor of Cabrera & Company. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from De La Salle University Tañada-Diokno School of Law in 2021. He took the bar examination in 2022 and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2023. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management major in Hospitality Management from De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde.
Gene is a seasoned tax litigator, adept in handling tax assessments, and judicial claims for refund, both in the national and local levels. He has successfully represented foreign and domestic corporations, including corporate officers, before the Court of Tax Appeals, Regional Trial Courts and the Office of the City Prosecutor.
During his more than four (4) years in Cabrera & Company, Gene has achieved, among others, notable accomplishments:
- Secured a favourable ruling from the Court of Tax Appeals, resulting in a PHP 235 million grant of tax refund for a Fortune 500 company.
- Represented a domestic corporation and a Fortune 500 company in two separate and distinct criminal complaints filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue for violation of the Tax Code, which were dismissed by the Office of the City Prosecutor.
- Negotiated the reduction of the alleged local business tax liabilities of a multinational technology company from PHP 1.3 billion to PHP 50 million, which amount also includes all its administrative liabilities pertaining to the closure of its business. The terms and conditions of the said negotiation was contained in a judicial compromise agreement which was duly approved by the Regional Trial Court.
- One of the lead counsels responsible for the successful compromise negotiation of a more than a decade old controversy involving a Fortune 500 company for alleged deficiency local business taxes before the Regional Trial Court.
